ZIHUATENEJO, Mexico Several American
residents of the Pacific coast town of Zihuatanejo have asked
the U.S. embassy to investigate the death of a U.S. man while
in custody in a Mexican jail.
The embassy said it had received the letter
and was reviewing it. The letter involves the death of Edmundo
Clarke, 58, on July 31, 2000.
The residents wrote the letter after a diary
Clarke kept came to light, suggesting he had been jailed on trumped
up charges in order to strip him of his investments.
Addressed to Ambassador Tony Garza, the
letter was signed by 10 Zihuatanejo residents who identified themselves
as U.S. citizens. It demands that Garza ask Mexican officials
to open an investigation into the "provoked death" of
Clarke.
Clarke died of a heart attack, apparently
brought on by a lack of medical care, access to medication and
proper diet at the jail.
It was not clear what charges Clarke had
been jailed on.

sent me this San Diego Union Tribune Associated Press article
which has me asking questions I hope you can answer.
The Nightmare of Edmund Clarke's
Last Days ...
Juan would call long distance and rant, demanding that I send
to him the original
cashed checks I had written to EdClarke's bank
account for reservations made ...

Also those with copies was ex-mayor
Fidel Guitterez, who after four years won his eviction
suit against Juan Barnard, to regain control of what was called
in Ed's day the Hotel
Paraiso Real and now is called
Casa del Mar
I would imagine Helen Gaffney had originals,
since she took Edmund's handwritten material home to type into
her computer.
And WHO suddenly was looking? Those who cared for Edmund
showed up at the jail, none of us would have waited four years
to write a letter.
Re:

Clarke had been jailed on.
We all knew Ed was falsely arrested
by Juan Barnard using a document with the Presidents Zedillo's
forged signature on it to get the judiciales to his dirty work.
The fraudulent charges were criminal fraud.
Elizabeth in your capacity as our consul
I'm sure you did all possible for Edmund: what is the merit of
soliciting evidence now in the hands of my lawyer, to demonstrate
that Ed was framed ? How can the US government involve itself
in a criminal case? Please illuminate and tell me what these
ten individuals hope to gain...
Sincerely,
