Nearly 1000 people were involved
in the production of Fantasia. The full magnitude of Fantasia
was not realized until everything was brought together. Each part
of the film was specialized and compartmentalized. Walt Disney
did not set out to establish their conceptions as the definitive
depiction of the music, but the familiarity of Fantasia has produced
memories that seem tied to the music in today's world
Walt Disney commented about Fantasia,
"Fantasia' is timeless. It may run ten, twenty, thirty years.""Fantasia'
is an idea in itself. I can never build another."
Pieces in Fantasia include:
-Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
by Johann Sebastian Bach
-The Nutcracker Suite by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky
-The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas
-The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky
-The Pastoral Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven
-Dance of the Hours by Amilcare Ponchielli
-Night on Bald Mountain by Modeste Moussorgsky
-Ave Maria by Franz Shubert

DONOVAN TOBIN,
FATHER OF PATRICK TOBIN, THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ARTIST TO HAVE LIVED
IN ZIHUATANEJO, IS MENTIONED IN THE CREDITS AS MAKING MANY OF
THE IMAGES IN FANTASIA...
Above is the
only Tobin I know in a private
rental property. There are a few for sale in two galleries
in Zihuatanejo. During his last stint as mayor Armando Frederico
was Tobin's patron and according to Tobin's ex girlfriend, our
local artist Dolore (see smaller canveses on right, mutiple works
always for sale), has a huge collection.
Patrick Donovan Tobin
Patrick Donovan Tobin
was born in Los Angeles, California in the summer of 1950. His
parents, renowned cartoonist Don Tobin and child actress Helen
Stone, moved the family to Montreaux, Switzerland, where Patrick
became exposed to an international lifestyle, then to the art
colony of Laguna Beach. There was quite the clan of celebrated
cartoonists in Laguna Beach during Patrick's childhood, and he
grew up influenced by this group of men: his father, the Interlandi
brothers, Virgil Partch, John Dempsey and Ed Nofziger. Patrick
says he always knew he would be a painter. "My dad knew more
about painting than anyone I know. So I was brought up with it...For
some reason I never questioned what I was going to be."
By 1974 he was living
and surfing in southern Mexico. Spending most of his time exploring
the wild cost line and remote villages, Patrick was inspired to
paint landscapes, working outdoors in the old plein air tradition.
His fried Jan Kasprzycki - another surfer / painter from Laguna
Beach - realized the potential and value of these early paintings
and encouraged Patrick to show and sell his work.
In the ensuing 25
years, Patrick has continued to paint throughout his adopted country
of Mexico, where his works were collected by the Governor of Guererro
and Sr. Ernesto Zedillo, President of the Republic of Mexico.
He has traveled throughout Europe, Hawaii, and back to California
developing his distinctive style.
In his most recent
work is a stately quality. His fascination with vivid, often contrasting
colors has re~evolved along with the successful and enduring elements
from earlier, predominantly earth~toned palette. As in the past,
Patrick Tobin's paintings simply don't stand still. He exhibits
a singular command of composition that makes him unique among
contemporary artists.
