Villa Impairmont:
Esalen for the mentally ill or snakepit?
The utter insanity
of being
sane in insane places provoked my
paranoia
It all started
in
Zihuatanejo : a Paradise
where
I was deported from my home
in Mexico because I was manic ...
and paranoid ...
I was hunted
down
and thrown in
a Mexican
Jail
where I
set myself on fire...
Before I
could commit
more mischief or hurt myself further
...I was handcuffed
and taken to the District
Attorney's office
much later
I was driven by three Immigration
officials to a
large psychiatric
hospitial in Mexico City,
which was
remarkable for the twice daily excursions to a huge grounds where
hundreds of young mentally ill patients
danced to
salsa music under a huge palapa.
After three
weeks, now profoundly depressed, I was interred at the Migracion
detention center
where innumerable
women from all corners of the world were waiting to be deported
back to their country of origin. Some had been there nine months...
After a month
of lying on a concrete slab with nothing to do except watch everyone
else, my little sister
took time
from her busy schedule to rescue me
I flew home only
to be homeless. Eventually I was admitted to a long term
psychiatric facility for rehabilitation:
