Zihuatanejo from the Zihuatanejo Connection
The town of
Zihutanejo is settled on the edge of a protected bay. From La
Ropa beach the hils look like out stretched arms that embrace
the quiet bay, leaving an opening for ships, boats, and fish to
come and go. The Town fisherman bring their catch in to shore
early. The town women and mrket venders await their arrival on
the quai. Net makers sit beneath the big tree with the string
anchored to the trunk.
This is the
giant tree that grows near the town beach. So many restaurants
have been built up around it that you can pass by wihout noticing
its magnificance.
My first lodging
(the old Marus place) made me thin of Gaugins Thaitian hideaway,
the walls were slatted bamboo, the suspended bed was hung with
moquito nets, the shower drained into the middle of the floor,
sunlight filtered through bamboo openings and the shade was cool.
Playa La Ropa
hos housed a tiny community of discovers for twenty
years. I am so charmed by their palm and bamboo lodging that
most of my sketches are interiors and views from these sight.
